About Marissa Shennan, LMFT
If you’re looking for a therapist with a mix of empathy and compassion, a collaborative nature, and a straightforward approach, with over a decade of experience working with both everyday as well as complex needs, we may be a great fit in therapy. I approach therapy visits by employing attachment and developmentally informed frameworks while utilizing experiential opportunities within our therapeutic relationship to help you reach your goals. Now that you’ve got the clinical jargon down, let’s get straight to it – We will work collaboratively together to figure things out, identify solutions, and find growth and healing that fits your needs.
I also have several years of experience making telehealth/virtual therapy both helpful and effective, whether we’re working through everyday life stressors, anxiety, depression, or more intensive concerns, such as trauma and PTSD. Think of me as a co-pilot in this journey – we will work together to identify our destination and goals, as well as tailor ways to make the improvements and changes you desire.
My background includes diverse education with master’s degrees in Counseling & Student Services-Higher Education, Psychology, and Counseling-Marriage, Family & Child Therapy, a bachelor’s degree in business administration and marketing. I hold the EMDRPT-II certification, and am a nationally certified counselor. I also have extensive experience working with survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, trauma, attachment and childhood issues, veterans and military service members, faith-based/Christian counseling, and more. I draw from a variety of theoretical approaches, interventions and modalities to make therapy effective, including internal family systems, EMDR, cognitive-behavioral therapies, solution-focused approaches.
