About Emily VanNortwick, LMFT
“Therapy is not about fixing people; it’s about empowering them to heal themselves.” -Irvin D. Yalom
Hi there! My name is Emily VanNortwick and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over a decade of experience working in the mental health field. I am an affirming therapist and have both personal and professional experience navigating symptoms of anxiety often associated with distressing life events. I understand how intimidating therapy can be, so my approach to treatment is highly relational and conversational. Most of us struggle to open up to our loved ones on a regular basis, let alone a total stranger! I support clients in finding their own voice and empower them to make their own choices as they move toward more fulfilling lives and relationships.
I’ve spent much of my career working in outpatient settings supporting clients navigating symptoms of anxiety, depression, PTSD, grief, personal and work-related stress, relationship distress, and challenges related to self-esteem and self-worth.
I collaborate with my clients to help them find the best treatment approach for their individual needs, often integrating attachment-based, relational, and cognitive (CBT) approaches. I’ve received training in EMDR, an evidence-based treatment that is especially effective in treating symptoms of anxiety and trauma and integrate this approach with clients who may benefit from this particular treatment and are looking for something a little different than traditional talk therapy.
As lonely as it can feel to navigate the various challenges impacting our lives, I am here to support my clients in knowing they are not alone while they develop the courage and skills required to make meaningful change.
