About Dr. Reena Becerra, Ph.D

Dr. Becerra uses strength-based approaches to empower, educate and provide positive unconditional support to touch the lives of those who need healing and support. Her approach is compassionate and encouraging to find purpose, meaning and growth through experiences. 

Dr. Becerra provides an integrative style with a broad range of skills for families, couples, children, teens and adults.  

She utilizes a multicultural perspective and incorporates multiple aspects of a systematic approach such as, school, peer relations, community, culture and religious affiliations, which may impact functioning. 

Dr. Becerra received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from San Diego State University and obtained her Master’s Degree and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Alliant International University-California School of Professional Psychology. She completed a pre-doctoral internship at an intensive outpatient facility for substance use disorders in Los Angeles and completed her post-doctoral hours in private practice treating adolescents, couples and families. For her Ph.D., Dr. Becerra’s research focused on acculturation, mental health symptoms, risk recognition and danger assessment factors in intimate partner violence survivors.

Before relocating to Los Angeles, Dr. Becerra’s professional background focused primarily on providing therapeutic services to child and adult survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV) in San Diego. She chaired an advocacy group for women survivors and provided services to case managers, at risk youth and a variety of prevention agencies within the community. She has been featured in educational documentary tools for prosecutors, judges and forensic staff in the field of violence and has worked with child survivors of abuse in camp settings providing hope and healing. Dr. Becerra has been honored as a guest and keynote speaker at various international conferences, media, television appearances and educational events related to IPV and has taught classes and seminars at several universities on overcoming trauma. 

Dr. Becerra understands the courage and strength it takes to thrive despite difficult circumstances and believes in the power of resilience, perseverance and tenacity to overcome obstacles. Dr. Becerra is honored to help you along your journey.
