About Dr. Emma Doney, PsyD

My name is Emma Doney and I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (PsyD). I have lived in San Diego since 2021, and I absolutely love it! During my free time, I love spending time with my dog at the beach or curled up in bed with my cat. I enjoy traveling, true-crime documentaries, and sports.

I mainly work with adults and specialize in life transitions, stress, and relationship concerns. I use a variety of therapeutic techniques to meet my clients where they are and help them navigate life’s challenges. I operate from a person-centered framework, utilizing empathy and unconditional positive regard to hold space for my clients where they are while also challenging them to work towards becoming the version of themselves they want to be. Sessions tend to be process-oriented (i.e. exploring whatever you bring into session that day), with exercises/education/skill development when appropriate and as needed.

I have found that my approach is a good fit for individuals wanting to engage in identity exploration, desiring a space to process difficult emotions and relationships, and navigating life transitions. This often takes the form of stress, anxiety, depression, and confusion. My communication style is calm, personable, and warm. I genuinely care about the people I work with, and strive to create a comfortable space for this important personal work. I have often been told that I am easy to talk to, nonjudgmental, and gentle.
