About Anesha Sanders, ACSW

You Are Awesome and We Want to Hear All About It!

Hello! I am excited to share a bit about myself and the passions that shape who I am and why I love being a therapist. First things first, my name is Anesha Sanders, and I am a Black female that is a San Diego native. There truly is no place like home, and supporting and pouring back into the communities that helped to shape me is the goal. I started my clinical journey about 5 years ago where I partnered with children, youth, and families who were experiencing trauma. I worked alongside them to support their stabilization. Additionally, I have worked with youth and families who are system-involved, who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assaults and who have been trafficked. Lastly, as a caregiver myself, I find it rewarding to work with other caregivers (foster parents, relative caregivers, adoptive parent. . .etc.). I have insight and empathy for this population because it is a part of my everyday life. I have also worked to refine my clinical skills by participating in the following trainings over the last year: Motivational Interviewing, Eco-Systems Family Therapy, QPR Suicidal Intervention and Crisis Intervention training for sexual assault and domestic violence counselors.

As for my chosen modalities, I utilized an integrated approach to tailor therapy sessions to fit the individual, the family, or the couple I am partnering with. I use a combination of: CBT, DBT, ACT with an emphasis on solution-focused and spirituality-focused approaches when requested. I am also experienced in aiding those I work with, identify, refine and implement healthy boundaries and build self-esteem by exploring and defining core values.

I strive to consistently hold space for those I work with in a way that helps them feel supported in a non-judgmental environment. Holding a space in a safe and trusting environment ensures that I can help people begin to reframe adverse thoughts, see other perspectives and be held accountable in an emotional safe space. I believe that you are the expert of your story, and though I can provide a clinical perspective, you are the driver of your story. Partnership is critical for this process to be successful.
