About Joyce Garcia, AMFT

Hi my name is Joyce Garcia. I believe that healing is not only physically, but also emotional, and that emotional health could influence the physical body. This belief motivated me to pursue Marriage and Family Therapy. I started as a Therapist Trainee working with clients from various age groups and different cultural background. I provided individual, couple, and group therapy which focused on depression, anxiety, ADHD, grief, life transitions, behavioral problems, anger management, relational and familial issues. Being a Filipino-American Bilingual helped me provide counseling in Tagalog and support my clients dealing with cultural problems.

Throughout my clinical experience, I have used Emotionally Focused Therapy to understand my clients’ relationship dynamics and to help them identify and communicate their needs. I also utilized interventions from Structural therapy, Narrative therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral therapy. My goal is to build a safe place where my clients can be themselves and share their feelings, thoughts, and experiences. I am committed to guide and support my clients as they figure out their lives and encourage their autonomy.

Outside my clinical work, I enjoy doing my quiet time with the Lord, listening to music, singing, doing nature walks, organizing our home, and spending time with my family and friends. I was born in the Philippines and moved here in San Diego when I was a teenager. I consider myself as a bicultural, but who experienced asian and western cultures.
